Cross Tray Sorter
A Different Approach to Sortation
Conventional cross-belt sorters have long struggled with a fundamental problem — items rolling, sliding, or falling off trays when navigating turns, particularly lightweight, cylindrical, or irregularly shaped goods. EuroSort's response was to start from scratch. The Cross Tray Sorter features trays enclosed on all four sides, forming a contained pocket around each item. Regardless of shape, size, surface material, or weight, every item remains securely in place throughout its entire journey on the sorter — through straights, inclines, declines, and turns alike. This single design principle eliminates one of the most persistent sources of sort errors and product damage in high-speed automated sortation.
Mechanical Discharge, Two-Sided Sorting
Rather than relying on motors or belts within individual carriers — a common source of cost and complexity in cross-belt systems — the Cross Tray Sorter uses a simple, mechanically driven discharge mechanism with cleats on both sides of the tray. This forced discharge ensures precise, consistent item placement into the destination chute or carton, whilst enabling two-sided sorting from a single sorter loop. The result is a more compact layout, more sort destinations per metre of sorter length, and significantly lower capital and maintenance costs compared to conventional cross-belt alternatives.
Exceptional Product Range
The Cross Tray Sorter handles an exceptionally broad product range, from very small items such as cosmetic tubes and accessories all the way up to medium-sized parcels and outbound cartons up to 22 kg. Polybags, padded mailers, envelopes, shoe boxes, fashion items, sportswear, loose garments, and pharmaceutical products are all handled on the same system without modification or product preparation. For CEP operators processing an increasingly diverse parcel mix — driven by the growth of e-commerce and marketplace platforms — this versatility is a significant operational advantage. Throughput ranges from 3,000 to 17,000 trays per hour, scaling to match the demands of the operation.
Built for CEP and E-Commerce Environments
The Cross Tray Sorter is designed for the continuous, high-intensity environment of parcel hubs and e-commerce fulfilment centres. Non-magnetic tray components and all-electronic operation make it compatible with the scanning and identification systems standard in CEP operations. Its tight discharge pitch allows items to be sorted directly into outbound cartons, totes, or bags with no secondary handling at pack-out — reducing labour requirements and minimising the risk of mis-sorts reaching the despatch area.
For e-commerce operations managing a high proportion of low-item orders across a large number of delivery zones or carrier services, the Cross Tray's two-sided discharge and compact footprint enable a high destination count without the floor space typically associated with high-throughput sortation. Returns processing is equally well supported: the same sorter can handle inbound returns alongside outbound order flows, consolidating what would otherwise be separate manual or mechanical processes.
Modular, Scalable, and Low Maintenance
The Cross Tray Sorter is built on EuroSort's aluminium, no-weld framework, making installation straightforward and future expansion or reconfiguration simple. The mechanical simplicity of the discharge system — with no motors or power supplies in individual carriers — keeps ongoing maintenance requirements low and reduces the risk of carrier-level failures that can affect uptime. Operating quietly and reliably around the clock, it is well suited to multi-shift and lights-out sortation environments where dependability is non-negotiable.
Trusted by leading parcel carriers, postal operators, and e-commerce businesses across more than 40 countries, the EuroSort Cross Tray Sorter delivers the versatility, accuracy, and efficiency that modern CEP and e-commerce logistics operations demand — at a lower total cost of ownership than comparable cross-belt technology.
