Automatic parcel loading
)
Loading parcel delivery vehicles remains one of the most labor-intensive tasks in last-mile logistics. It typically takes between 60 and 90 minutes of manual work to load a single delivery vehicle.
Innovative Robot Delivery’s Smarcel has redefined the way parcels are delivered. Now, the engineers and developers at IRD have reached the prototype stage of a system that will automatically load the Smarcel at the depot.
The aim is to automate the gap between the chute and the Smarcel. The concept is designed to fit most depot infrastructures, with a strong focus on flexibility and cost-efficiency. It features a single robotic arm that distributes parcels onto multiple AMRs (autonomous mobile robots) equipped with load-carrying devices. These AMRs then feed the parcels into the mobile parcel locker.
Designed to work safely and intuitively alongside human operators, this solution promises to unlock a new level of efficiency for parcel logistics. Prototype testing is on track to finish by late 2025, with real-world pilots ready to start in 2026. Visit the company’s booth to find out more.
